Crusader Kings 2 is getting a subscription service just for its DLC

You can access around $300 of content for a pretty low monthly fee.

Paradox is rolling out a subscription service for grand strategy title Crusader Kings 2.

The Swedish games firm announced the move in a post on its forums, saying that users could subscribe for $4.99/£3.99 a month for full access to every bit of Crusader Kings 2 content.

Since its launch back in 2012, Paradox has released in the region of $300 worth of extra content for the strategy game, with this subscription service apparently being a way to make it affordable to newer players. The company made the core Crusader Kings 2 free-to-play on Steam back in October 2019.

"With so much additional content available, the cost for new Crusader Kings 2 players can seem prohibitive or intimidating," Paradox wrote, explaining why it was rolling out this subscription service.

"This is an affordable way for players to experience the entire Crusader Kings 2 catalogue without having to weigh which items they would prefer to purchase.

"This does not mean it is the only way to get DLC moving forward. The subscription service is entirely optional and purchasing a single or multiple DLC packs without the Subscription is still an option."

A sequel, Crusader Kings 3 was released in September 2020. In our review, we said it was "the best grand strategy game yet." By the end of September, the game had shifted more than one million copies on Steam. Crusader Kings 3 is also available in Xbox Game Pass for PC.
