Uncharted film delayed once again, this time to 2022
This movie has now been in the works for 13 years.
The Uncharted film adaptation has been pushed back until 2022.
That's according to The Hollywood Reporter, which writes that the film has been pushed out of 2021 and will be coming to cinemas on February 11, 2022. This is the latest setback for the long-in-development adaptation of Naughty Dog and Sony's Uncharted franchise.
This film has been in the works in some form or another since 2008. Zombieland: Double Tap's Ruben Fleischer is now helming the Uncharted film and is the seventh – yes, SEVENTH – director to be attached to the project.
Filming began in March 2020 but was soon shut down to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. It resumed in July of that year with Spider-man star Tom Holland giving us a first look at the movie set. In October, the actor showed us what his portrayal of protagonist Nathan Drake looked like, shortly after voice actor Nolan North dropped by the film's set.
The Uncharted film was previously set for a December 18, 2020 release, before being bumped until March 5, 2021, when director Travis Knight left the project. The coronavirus pandemic pushed its launch until October 8, 2021, before it was brought forward to July 16, 2021.
Holland has described the Uncharted film's script as "one of the best" he has ever read. He is starring in the movie alongside Mark Wahlberg, who is portraying Sully, as well as Antonio Banderas, but it's not clear who he is playing yet.
Sony is working on three films and seven TV shows based on PlayStation IP. Rumours also point to the company's newly-formed and secret(ish) San Diego studio working on the next entry in the Uncharted series.
