New PUBG games in the works for PC, consoles, and mobile

Krafton is full steam ahead on a number of PUBG projects.

Krafton, the company that owns Bluehole, PUBG Corp., and Striking Distance is seemingly working on two other big new projects. Right now, the only publicly announced game is Striking Distance's Dead Space spiritual successor The Callisto Protocol, due for release in 2022.

But there's more going on at the Korean company.

In a Bloomberg profile of CEO Kim Chang-han, the longtime programmer and executive producer of PlayerUnknowns Battlegrounds revealed that Krafton has two more PUBG projects in the works. One is "PUBG-related", in development for PC and consoles, and the other is a new battle royale game for mobile, based on PUBG.

This sounds like an awful lot of skirting around simply calling them PUBG 2 and PUBG Mobile 2. Indeed, there's been talk of a big new project at PUBG Corp. for a while, which some outright referred to as a sequel to PUBG.

We're not able to verify those claims, but the project appears to have been in development for nearly a year. With the popularity of PUBG waning, it makes sense for Krafton to build something new that may renew player interest in the series.

Kim Chang-han, of course, is one of the people responsible for the battle royale phenomenon, after he invited Brendan "PlayerUnknown" Greene to South Korea to turn his niche Arma mod into a full game.

Krafton is also getting ready for a public offering later this year, and the announcement of a sequel to one of the most popular games ever could give share prices a massive boost at IPO launch.
