Project 007 is IO Interactive's upcoming James Bond game
IO Interactive, the development studio behind the esteemed Hitman games and the Kane & Lynch series, has today announced it will be working on a James Bond game.
So far called simply 'Project 007', this new game will be published and developed by IO Interactive itself – hopefully meaning the developer has a lot of creative control over the spy title.
"Earn your 00 status in a brand new James Bond video game to be developed and published by IO Interactive," reads the video description. You can check out the short but exciting teaser below.
"IO Interactive, in collaboration with MGM, EON Productions and Delphi announced today that they are developing and publishing the very first James Bond origin story with the working title Project 007," reads a press release.
The most notable part of the announcement is that IO will be creating a wholly new narrative for the game: "Project 007 will feature a wholly original Bond story exclusively as a video game," the release continues. Whether we'll be seeing a famous actor's Bond likeness or a new face for the infamous agent remains to be seen.
“It’s true that once in a while, the stars do align in our industry,” says Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO Interactive, “Creating an original Bond game is a monumental undertaking and I truly believe that IO Interactive, working closely with our creative partners at EON and MGM, can deliver something extremely special for our players and communities. Our passionate team is excited to unleash their creativity into the iconic James Bond universe and craft the most ambitious game in the history of our studio.”
Project 007 will be powered by IO Interactive’s proprietary Glacier technology, and the game will be made for "modern systems and platforms", so you can probably expect it to land on at least the PS5, Xbox Series S/X and PC.
