The Outer Worlds sequel seemingly in the works

Obsidian may not be done with The Outer Worlds, after all.

About a year before The Outer Worlds developer Obsidian was set to ship its sci-fi RPG, Microsoft swooped in to acquire the studio along with inXile.

The Outer Worlds has since released, of course, to much critical acclaim. Since then, the assumption has been that the team would now set its sights on something new with the support of parent company Microsoft. Obsidian has, of course, already revealed Avowed, its next action RPG.

But it turns out, there may be more in the works at Obsidian than just Avowed. Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad has revealed that the developer is currently exploring a sequel to the game, adding that the project is in pre-production.

Ahmad has often been reliable when it comes to industry news, though he did not say what form the new game will take. Indeed, we still don't know whether future sequels to The Outer Worlds would arrive on more platforms than PC and Xbox. Nevertheless, the prospect of a bigger sequel to the game with higher production values is enticing.

In case you missed it, The Outer Worlds is coming to Steam later this month.
