New Fable game could be an MMO, not Fable 4
Rumours suggest that the new Fable game revealed during yesterday's Xbox event could be an MMO as opposed to the long-awaited Fable 4.
The news comes from ResetEra, where a poster collected a string of tweets from a French journalist who correctly predicted the Xbox event's entire lineup ahead of the showcase.
Check out the tweet below, which includes timestamps of when he predicted the lineup. Apparently he got this information from a variety of sources, and was unsure of their reliability until the showcase actually happened and proved them right.
As you can see, everything looks fairly normal - except for the fact that Fable is listed as an MMO. Granted, this could have been speculation, or a mistake - however, the journalist went on to double down on the fact that the new Fable game is going to be an MMO.
Check out the follow-up tweet below.
When roughly translated from French, the latter half of the tweet reads: "A game in the world of Fable. But in MMO (sorry, not Fable 4)."
It's not too far-fetched when you consider the fact that Halo Infinite is due to be the last installment in the series for the foreseeable future, and will regularly receive updates in order to maintain interest. In a world where games as a service has become the norm, and titles such as Final Fantasy 14 and World of Warcraft thrive, taking an iconic IP like Fable and converting it into a forever game sounds like a pretty smart business decision.
So yeah, despite a Twitter account recently introducing the possibility of a new Fable game - which has since been proven true - it might not be the long-awaited Fable 4 everyone's getting excited about.
Also, there were those rumours a while back about Fable 4 being a "completely open" sequel in which Albion is gone...
The new Fable game is being handled by Forza developer Playground Games. There's no release date yet, but we know it's coming to Xbox Series X. Obviously.
