Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition seemingly closer to release

The Definitive Edition of Age of Empires 3 might be closer than we thought.

Microsoft announced a while back that Age of Empires 3 was due to get the same Definitive Edition treatment both of its predecessors enjoyed. The game's closed beta actually kicked off earlier this year, but the company hasn't shared any updates since.

Now, according to Brazil's Classificacao Indicativa rating board, the game may be on its way to release. The rating body recently classified Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition, as spotted by Resetera (I couldn't find the listing on the site's database).

Usually, games get rated closer to release. Rating board leaks aren't always solid, however, as publishers sometimes hold or delay games. At any rate, the listing's existence indicates that Microsoft is getting closer to officially revealing a release date.

The publisher obviously has its Xbox Games Showcase event next week, but that will most likely focus on the big Xbox Series X games. Microsoft could instead reveal Age of Empires 3: DE, and perhaps even share more news about Age of Empires 4, at a separate event at some other point in the year.

Both the Definitive Editions of the two prior Age of Empires games have been well received, so we expect Age of Empires 3 to be another solid remaster.
