Cyberpunk 2077 melee system is different to the one shown in first gameplay demo

The Cyberpunk 2077 melee system in the finished game will apparently be quite different to the one originally showcased during its first official gameplay demo.

The news comes from Reddit, where a user named Moraez shared details garnered from a range of podcasts hosted by German website GameStar. The podcasts in question are in German and only premium GameStar subscribers are permitted access to them, but Moraez took the initiative to translate some of the most important talking points and post a summary to Reddit.

One of the many details in Moraez' post has to do with the Cyberpunk 2077 melee system, which a lot of fans already saw during the first Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay demo. Check out the video below and skip to 2:40 to watch a quick melee takedown.

According to Moraez, "The melee fight system shown in the E3 trailer was not nearly where they wanted it, so expect some big improvements there."

Interestingly, CD Projekt Red designer Kyle Rowley was credited as having confirmed that the melee combat from The Witcher 3 was due to be transferred to Cyberpunk 2077, with the shift from third-person to first-person seemingly posing quite a minor obstacle. Rowley's confirmation is documented in the video embedded below, which also features a look at the Mantis Blades.

If you want to see them in action, skip to 1:50, where you'll get a look at their appearance in the original Cyberpunk 2077 teaser trailer, their presence on an in-game poster, and, finally, their equip animations, which are delightfully paired with some hardcore parkour.

As well as the fact that melee combat is due to be different to how it originally appeared, various other details came from the podcast translations, including the fact that Cyberpunk 2077 level design improvements will be as substantial as the jump from The Witcher 2 to The Witcher 3, and that there will be over 1,000 NPCs with daily routines in Cyberpunk 2077.
