Terraria is the third most-played game on Steam following latest update

Terraria is one of the most played games on Steam this week, a whopping nine years after its initial release.

The indie hit got a major boost following the release of its final major update yesterday, which has led to a peak player count of 486,918 users on Steam according to SteamCharts.

An impressive 387,218 players are currently in-game, making Terraria the third most played game as of press time - just under Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2. To give that a little perspective, 997,162 users are currently playing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, while 560,767 players are in Dota 2.

Terraria: Journey’s End – the fourth and final major update for the indie sandbox game - went live yesterday, adding 800 new craftable items, new enemy types, revamped biomes, new weather effects, and an in-game bestiary. But most important of all, perhaps, is the ability to pet the dog:

There is still no word on when we might see the update hit other platforms. Re-Logic have previously stated that Journey’s End will come to consoles, mobile, and Switch, “but likely not at the exact same time.”
