PGA Tour 2K21 releases August 21 with all the licenses you'd expect
Last week we got a tease for 2K's latest big sports franchise: a fully-licensed PGA Tour golf game. Now we have a release date - and lots more juicy details.
PGA Tour 2K21 will release worldwide on August 21, and marks the return of a major named PGA Tour game for the first time since 2015, when EA had its last swing at a golf sports title.
The game comes from a continued partnership between 2K and HB Studios that follows on from 2K publishing that developer's most recent The Golf Club title last year. The Golf Club 2019 also featured the PGA Tour license, but this year's effort appears to feature all-around greater integration right up to the name.
Described as an "evolution of The Golf Club franchise", this latest entry of course boasts the PGA Tour license - which means 15 licensed PGA Tour courses in the game, each scanned in detail for maximum real-world accuracy.
Real-world detail is also achieved by licensed equipment and clothing from brands like adidas, Bridgestone, Callaway Malbon and Polo Ralph Lauren. In-game presentation will match televised golf with new dynamic cutscenes and replays as well as commentary from Luke Elvy (CBS, PGA Tour and more) and analysis from former pro golfer Rich Beem (Sky Sports).
Former World Golf Ranking #1 Justin Thomas has been chosen as the game's cover star. He'll be joined in-game by 11 other PGA Tour pro players - and you'll go up against all 12 in the game's career mode.
Beyond all these PGA Tour and career-focused features, fan favorite elements from The Golf Club also make a return including an upgraded Course Designer mode for making and sharing your own challenges. Players undertaking those challenges will have a range of assistance options ranging from shot suggestions and tips for beginners to advanced shot preview options for the more seasoned golfers. There will of course be a range of online modes including tournament and custom ruleset options.
PGA Tour 2K21 is coming to the Xbox One, PS4, PC, Switch and Stadia. There's no word on any next generation plans yet. Players who pre-order will get access to some additional adidas brand gear for their golfer, while a Digital Deluxe package also nets you some extra cosmetic items to bling out with.
The expansion of 2K Sports will continue with a new licensed NFL game at some point in the future.
