Call of Duty 2020 still on track for release later this year, plus two more Activision games

Activision has once again reiterated that, despite the success of Warzone, a new Call of Duty game is coming this year.

During a post-earnings call with investors, Activision executives revealed a few interesting details about the remainder of the company's FY2020. With some stellar results in the first quarter off the back of Warzone and in-game purchases, Activision is looking to the future.

Reports about the seemingly troubled development of Call of Duty 2020 suggested that we may not get a premium Call of Duty game this year. Activision has other plans, however, as the company once again confirmed that Call of Duty 2020 - yet to be revealed - "already looks great" and is on track for release in the second half of the year.

The publisher does not see Warzone as competing with premium Call of Duty games, either. On the call, Activision executives repeatedly said that the success of Warzone has boosted sales of Modern Warfare, revealing that the number of upgrades to the full game has been higher than anticipated.

By the same token, Activision believes Warzone will only have a "positive impact" on the performance of Call of Duty 2020.

Also during the same year, we can expect World of Warcraft's Shadowlands expansion, and two other games based on Activision IP. There's been enough rumours now about a new/remake of Tony Hawk Pro Skater that we have to believe that's one of them. As for the other, it's likely the, also rumoured, new Crash Bandicoot game.

As for Call of Duty 2020, Activision is still not saying which studio is making it. In fact, there's been remarkably little information about it on the call, apart from the confirmation that it is coming.

According to reports, Call of Duty 2020 is a Vietnam-era set Black Ops game. May is usually Call of Duty reveal month, so we'll see if this holds true this year as well.
