Animal Crossing: New Horizons had the biggest opening weekend of any Switch game in Japan
Animal Crossing: New Horizons just had the biggest opening weekend of any Switch game ever released in Japan.
According to a report from Geo Corporation data (via 4Gamer), the latest entry in the Nintendo series sold more than 1.3 million units in its first three days. This record was previously held by Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield, with 1.3 million units sold within a three day span.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the series’ first entry on Nintendo Switch, and possibly the biggest Animal Crossing yet. The game is built around the new concept of populating a deserted island, rather than moving into an existing town - and you can customise your island’s landscape, or use designs from New Leaf and Happy Home Designer through the mobile app.
Check out our review of Animal Crossing: New Horizons from Alex Donaldson who describes the game as "another Switch triumph that joins the console’s Mario and Zelda entries as an arguable series best."
