GTA Online basically has Formula One races now

GTA Online has added a new competitive racing series.

Racing and car ownership are huge components of GTA Online's appeal. Though it may look like a game about murdering and robbing on the surface, there's a big community who does nothing but grind the game's various racing series.

This week, GTA Online received an update that added the Open Wheel Racing event. This comes in the form of two open-wheel cars, which appear to be themed after 90s Formula One. The Progen PR4, in particular, bears an uncanny resemblance to the late Ayrton Senna's iconic McLaren MP4/6.

You'll be able to upgrade various components of the car, including the engine and wings, and change up their looks considerably through liveries and other cosmetics.

Though the new arrivals may look like 90s F1 cars, Rockstar has added in Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS), essentially a speed boost you build up as you race which can be used to gain an advantage. In other words, Nitros with a more intricate name, because F1.

Alongside the new vehicles, Rockstar added seven new street racing tracks, which beat closed circuits any day. Check out the trailer below to see them in action, and load up the game if you want to give them a go.
