Call of Duty: Modern Warfare update nerfs footstep and killstreak sounds
The first mid-season patch for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is here.
As promised, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players everywhere received a big update last night. The patch added the Vacant and Shipment remakes, Cranked mode, the new operator Nikto and more.
Outside of the new content, the update also brought with it a number of bug fixes and a couple of balance tweaks worth highlighting. On the balance end, we got yet another reduction to footstep sounds in third-person.
This was done by reducing their audible range, increasing the degree walls and other solid objects block footstep sounds, and a reduction to rustling sounds that sometimes accompany footstep sounds. Although killstreak sounds were not reduced, Infinity Ward made it so their noise doesn't deafen everyone indoors.
This week's update also reduced flinch when using the Kar98k, EBR-14, and MK2 Carbine. The re-chamber time on the K98k was also reduced. The .357 Snake Shot has had its hip spread adjusted so it's the same across all stances.
For players using keyboard and mouse, the new patch makes it possible to have a separate keybind for changing zoom levels/toggling hybrid sights. Previously, changing that keybind also changed your sprint button, unless you had set three separate keys for each of the functions.
There's now a new toggle under gameplay that lets you control the behaviour of this particular function.
A few other notable changes include fixes for the bug that caused Turtle error to occur, and the bug that sent players into an infinite 'Update Requires Restart' loop. See the full set of patch notes on Reddit.
