Pokemon Sword and Shield's first Gigantamax Event is live with Butterfree

Pokemon Sword and Shield players can now participate in the first Gigantamax Event featuring the Pokemon Butterfree.

Now through January 2020, you are more likely to encounter Gigantamax Butterfree in Pokemon Sword and Shield Max Raid Battles.

During this same period in Pokemon Sword, you are also more likely to encounter Gigantamax Drednaw. If you play Pokemon Shield you're also more likely to encounter Gigantamax Corviknight.

Other Gigantamax Pokemon could appear more often than usual, so be sure to participate in Max Raid Battles.

In Max Raid Battles, you and three other Trainers team up to take on a wild Dynamax Pokemon. In rare cases, Gigantamax Pokémon can appear instead, even though the chance is very small. But, some Gigantamax Pokemon become more common during specific time periods - like now.

Nintendo said the Gigantamax Pokemon you’re likely to encounter will change over time.
