Call of Duty: Modern Warfare patch 1.05 fixes Dead Silence

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has received a new patch on all platforms.

Update: A few hours after the patch's release, the developer outlined exactly what's been changed. The big news is that Dead Silence now works as intended: making your footsteps inaudible while it's active. Previously, the perk didn't work at all.

Hardpoint was added to custom matches with this update, and Infinity Ward made a few backend fixes to reduce instances of game crashes on all platforms. Here's the full set of patch notes:

  • We’ve done work on the backend to help with stability and prevent crashes across all platforms.
  • Fix for a special ops achievement that was not unlocking after completing all missions.
  • Third-person footsteps are now silent while the Dead Silence Field Upgrade is active.
  • Hardpoint: adjustments to the hill rotations and locations on Arklov Peak, Azhir Cave, Hackney Yard, Rammaza, and St. Petrograd.

Original story: Infinity Ward has rolled out a new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare update a few minutes ago on all platforms. The update brings the game to version 1.05, and is its second one post launch.

1.05 clocks in at 2~3GB on PS4 and Xbox One, but 7GB on PC, just like the one before it. Unfortunately, Infinity Ward has yet to say what actually got fixed or added in the patch, leaving players to speculate.

From reports on Reddit so far, the campaign cutscene stuttering issue on PC has not yet been fixed. It also sounds like instances of multiplayer crashes have increased, which is definitely not good news.

It's possible this update just adds new content, but we've yet to see what that is. Not all of Modern Warfare's promised launch content was available on launch day, and some, such as the mysterious third Ground War map, has yet to materialise.

We'll update this story once official patch notes have been released.
