You can now toss loot to teammates in PUBG, and throw melee weapons at enemies
The fifth season of PUBG's live service is upon us, and the season's first patch is here.
Patch 5.1 has just arrived on the PUBG test servers on PC, clocking in at 8.7GB. The patch the first in Season 5, and includes a new Survivor Pass as well as several key gameplay tweaks.
The biggest new addition is the ability to throw loot to teammates. This can be done with ammo, or healing items. You can request the item you want by using the recently added communication tool, and your teammate will just need to press a button to automatically toss you what you want. If you're within reach, the item will be added to your inventory, otherwise, it will fall on the floor.
This also applies to melee weapons, which can be thrown to damage enemies, which means you can now stack melee weapons for use later as throwables. Another major feature is the arrival of vending machines, which spawn in Miramar and dispense energy drinks and painkillers.
The new season pass has a focus on Miramar, so the map itself is getting a few tweaks as well. First, loot spawn rate is being re-balanced. You'll now find assault rifles, DMRs and scopes much easier. The Win94 is getting a new built-in 2.7x scope, and its spawn rate is being increased as well. This is all being done to better support the long-range nature of most encounters in Miramar.
Although Miramar's visuals have not been updated, patch 5.1 removes some of the clutter around and inside buildings to improve looting. There's now also a race track and a new gold version of the Mirado vehicle.
Patch 5.1 should hit live servers next week, assuming no major bugs have been found. Season 5 will start then, or shortly afterwards. Hit up the official blog for more.
