How to start Destiny 2: Shadowkeep - get started with the main story

After months of lead-up, and a tantalising delay, Desinty 2: Shadowkeep is finally here! Here's how to access the new lunar location and pay Eris Morn a visit on the Moon.

How to start Destiny 2: Shadowkeep

Unlike a lot of DLC expansions, Destiny 2: Shadowkeep doesn't require a separate install. Once you've bought the game from your respective storefront, you should have access.

All you need to do is update your game like normal, and you'll have the files on your PC or console ready and waiting. For example, on PlayStation go to your Destiny 2 game icon, press "Options", then "Check for Update", and you'll download the data you need. Go through your similar process for Xbox One or Steam.

Once you've made it into the game - Bungie has said that players (especially on console) may experience difficulties logging in right as the expansion launches - you just need to:

  • Open up your Destinations menu and look to the right, there you'll see "The Moon".
  • Select the Moon and you'll automatically queue up a new mission "A Mysterious Disturbance".
  • Following the launch, you'll see the opening cutscene, which I won't spoil here

Now that you've started on Shadowkeep, you'll have access to all of the interesting new features that the expansion brings. There's the revamped Armor 2.0 and mods system, which we have a full page run-down of here.

And speaking of mods there will also be new seasonally rotating Artifacts - like The Eye of the Gatelord - which dish out powerful mods as you progress.

What's more, by completing new activities called "Nightmare Hunts" you can collect "Nightmare Essence" to power the "Lectern of Enchantment".
