Call of Duty: Modern Warfare post-launch maps and modes no longer exclusive to PS4 for 7 days
All platforms will receive Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's post-launch content simultaneously, after all.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare developer Infinity Ward has announced that "most" content coming to the game post launch will be available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One on the same day.
This is a massive change for Call of Duty, for the first time in a decade. It also goes against earlier announcements that PS4 players would get a seven-day head start on content, similar to Black Ops 4. That said, Infinity Ward left itself an out.
Content like multiplayer maps and modes, as well as Spec Ops missions will all be available on all platforms at the same time. However, PS4 still has the exclusive on other content that's yet to be revealed. This could refer to cosmetic content such as skins.
Infinity Ward also revealed that this isn't the end of Call of Duty's partnership with PlayStation, as PS4 players are going to have "an exciting Day 1 advantage." Once again, that bonus has yet to be officially detailed, but it's likely something trivial compared to maps and other relevant content.
Today's announcement makes sense, especially considering Modern Warfare's cross-play support and lack of a season pass. Cross-play, in particular, could have created problems for platforms with exclusive content, since some access would be have to be initially limited.
More details will be revealed closer to launch. Until then, we have this week's Modern Warfare cross-play beta to look forward to.
