Battlefield 5 patch adds two new maps, new weapons, increases max rank

There's a new Battlefield 5 patch for everyone on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

DICE has rolled out a new update for Battlefield 5 earlier on all platforms. Patch 4.4 brings two new maps to the game: Lofoten Islands, and Provence, with both having been previously shown off at conventions.

The bad news is that both maps will only be available in Squad Conquest and Team Deathmatch, with no variants for the bigger modes, such as Conquest. Panzerbusche 39, and the Breda M1935 PG are Battlefield 5's two new weapons, each unlocking through Tides of War challenges over a week.

The promised max rank increase is here, too, upping the level cap to 500 from 50. Instances of stuttering, which have been increasing for players over the past few months, should be less common after installing this patch.

Though DICE seemingly hasn't solved all issues that lead to stuttering, update 4.4 should improve the experience for players who previously ran into these problems. On the balance end, 4.4 brings a few tweaks to sniper rifles and SMGs.

Today's download is going to be larger than usual, as the developer is restructuring the game's files to reduce the size of future patches. As is common when developers do this, expect a lengthy install process. For some players, it may be faster to uninstall and re-download the full game, though you'll need a fast connection for that.
