An enhanced version of System Shock 2 is in the works

Nightdive Studios is working on an enhanced, improved version of the classic System Shock 2.

The studio, which specialises in enhanced editions of games like Turok, Forsaken, and the original System Shock (which they are also working on a full remake of), has announced plans to release System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition.

System Shock 2 tasked players with dealing with an infection outbreak on a starship in the year 2114. Ken Levine, of Bioshock fame, was the game's lead designer.

There's not a lot to the announcement beyond the confirmation that it's happening, but considering the work that went into the original System Shock Enhanced Edition, hopefully the cult classic sequel will receive a similar deep treatment. Like the original, the game will presumably be PC-only, although this hasn't been announced as of yet - the only information we have to go on is in the tweet above.

There's also a System Shock 3 in development, meaning that, effectively, there are three upcoming System Shock games on the horizon. Good news for a series that hasn't had a truly new entry since 1999.

We'll share more the moment Nightdive does.
