Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will let you play as characters other than Goku

The new Dragon Ball Z game is clearly focused on our old mate Goku, but you'll be able to play as a few other series favourites as well.

The game, which was named and properly shown off during E3 2019, is about Goku (who, if you're unfamiliar with the series, was named 'Kakarot' on his home planet before being sent to earth, Superman style). The footage we've seen so far had us thinking that he was likely the only playable character.

But some further information about the game has been unveiled by the latest issue of V-Jump. It's been posted by Ryokutya, and then translated by Gematsu, and now we're able to share the details.

Piccolo and Gohan will be playable at different points in the game, and Vegeta will be playable once the action moves to Planet Namek (as the main antagonist of the Saiyan Saga, he will serve as an enemy early in the game).

Piccolo is Goku's nemesis-turned-friend, and Gohan is his tiny son. They all have kind-of complicated relationships with one another.

Other characters will appear in support roles to assist in battle, but won't be playable. Characters include Tien, Chiaotzu, Krillin and Yamcha.

It remains unclear if the game will cover events beyond the Frieza Saga. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot releases for PS4, Xbox One and PC in early 2020.
