Apex Legends had over 1 million players in 8 hours

Apex Legends, Respawn Entertainment's free-to-play battle royale shooter, is off to a solid start.

Apex Legends went live worldwide last night, following a reveal livestream. Moments after the game became available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, hundreds of Twitch streamers started playing it (though for some, it was a paid promo).

This, in combination with the fact it's completely free to download and play, likely all contributed to a strong first day turnout. Respawn Entertainment CEO Vince Zampella shared on Twitter that Apex Legends broke the 1 million unique players record just eight hours after launch.

Though it may appear to be borrowing from Overwatch, and Fortnite, Apex Legends has a unique feel based on some of Titanfall's mechanics. Wall-running, double-jumping and Titans do not return, but Respawn isn't ruling out any such additions in the future.
