Overkill's The Walking Dead spawns $30 Starter Edition

There's now a cheaper version of Overkill's The Walking Dead for those not willing to pay the full $60.

Following disappointing sales for Overkill's The Walking Dead, Starbreeze has launched a $30 Starter Edition of the game, available now on Steam.

The starter edition includes all season one content, but notably not season two. Seasons are made up of missions that act as episodes, with the first episode of season two having just gone live.

"One of the most active topics of conversation since launch has been the price," wrote developer Overkill. "Having read your comments and thoughts about how best to move forward, we’re introducing the Starter Edition."

Starter Edition owners can purchase season two episodes (which sometimes include new characters, and weapons) separately, but prices will vary depending on each episode's size.

This effectively means that all content the game launched with is included in the Starter Edition. More interestingly, players with access to season two content will be able to invite friends who own the Starter Edition to play season two missions.

The cheaper version thankfully doesn't come with any level caps or content/progression restrictions outside of that, so any balance or mechanical changes in future patches will be available to all players simultaneously.

I've been greatly enjoying my time with the game, but it helps to have a group of friends to play with. You can read my impressions at the link, or check out our review above.
