Red Dead Redemption 2 features limb dismemberment and vital organ targeting
While Red Dead Redemption 2 will allow players to interact with the world in non-violent ways, that doesn’t mean Rockstar has scaled back the mayhem.
We didn’t get to see it at preview, but the game’s shotguns allow Arthur Morgan to blow heads, arms, and legs clean off. For when an NPC really annoys you.
As well as that, the Dead-Eye targeting system - which allows you to line up a series of shots before unleashing fury on a group of enemies - can also be upgraded to target vital organs.
If you upgrade the ability, you’ll be able to see an enemy’s weak points glowing in an X-ray view of their body, allowing you to go for the heart or other killshots.
When you land a particularly impressive kill, you also get treated to a slow-motion, cinematic camera of the bullet travelling to the target before putting them down. This is triggered contextually and takes into account accuracy, distance, and other factors.
Another cool feature is the ability to fire a warning shot into the air by pressing up on the D-pad while aiming. This can scare off wildlife and attract the attention of NPCs.
If you shoot without aiming, you can also hip fire - doing so with a single revolver sees Arthur fan the hammer, which looks as cool as it sounds.
