EA donating $1 million to Jacksonville shooting victims

EA sets up tribute fund and livestream to support the Jacksonville shooting victims and their families.

EA has pledged $1 million to support the victims and affected families of the Jacksonville shooting, setting up the Jacksonville Tribute and accompanying livestream, scheduled for next week.

The shooting took place last Sunday, during a Madden NFL 19 tournament in Jacksonville, Florida, leaving two dead and eleven inured, before the shooter proceeded to take his own life.

EA CEO, Andrew Wilson, released a statement earlier this week that included the news that the remaining Madden qualifiers would be cancelled to allow the company to run “a comprehensive review of safety protocols” for future events.

"The events last weekend in Jacksonville will impact the gaming community forever. We can’t begin to understand the pain so many are going through, nor do we pretend to have all the answers that will help us through the healing process," reads today's update.

"But as is so often the case, our community inspires us. The way you are coming together, and the outpouring of support for all those affected by this tragedy, is incredibly uplifting. We want to join you. "So today, we’re establishing the Jacksonville Tribute.

"First, we’re making a $1 million contribution to support the victims of last Sunday’s events. We’re also working to set up a fund where others can contribute alongside our donation, and we will come back very soon with further details. Contributions will go to the victims, including the families of Taylor Robertson, Elijah Clayton, and all those who were affected."

The Jacksonville Tribute Livestream is set to take place on Thursday, September 6. EA has promised to share more details "very soon."
