Fortnite's first official teaser for Season 5 has only added to players' speculation over time travel theme

Epic Games has revealed the first official teaser for Fortnite Season 5, three days ahead of its launch.

The official Fortnite Twitter account has tweeted the first teaser for the upcoming Season 5, which looks like it'll have a time rift theme, after cracks appeared in the sky, and parts of the map started to go missing.

The picture in the tweet shows what looks like a fox mask with a gold inlay, and a crack similar to those that have appeared across the map over the top of it.

The fox, or kitsune, appears in Japanese folklore, and possess supernatural abilities, including the power to bend time and space.

Alternatively, the mask could just allude to a skin that's part of an ancient Japan theme. We've already seen a wild west stagecoach appear on the map, as well as an ancient ship's anchor.

As parts of the in-game map have begun to disappear into the rifts, Fortnite props have been popping up in real life, as part of an elborate ARG, with the Durr Burger sign appearing in California along with a retro-style police car.

A supply llama has also popped up in an English phone booth.

Season 5 kicks off on July 12 at 4am EDT – that’s 8am GMT, and wraps up on September 20.

You've still got time to complete the Weekly Challenges, which are still live.
