Metal Wolf Chaos, a Japan-only Xbox game by FromSoftware, is getting an international remaster

Metal Wolf Chaos XD revisits a weird old classic by the developers behind the Dark Souls series.

Devolver hinted at this just yesterday before revealing it in their wild E3 conference today. Metal Wolf Chaos XD is coming to Xbox One, PS4 and PC, and will, according to the marketing materials that just could not resist this pun, ask you to Mech America Great Again.

Metal Wolf Chaos XD is infamous for being extremely "patriotic" - it's a game about America that never released outside of Japan, that seems to, perhaps, make fun of Americans. The president and the vice president go to war against one another inside giant robots, which is definitely our idea of a good time.

It was originally developed by the team behind Otogi, which is a fairly beloved old Xbox game.

Devolver Digital and General Arcade are handling this port, which will upscale the game but retain its original (all English) voice-acting and general zaniness. The game sees you running around in a giant robot, blasting other robots (and whoever else gets in your way) to liberate America.

Every write-up I can find suggests that the original game was pretty fun, as well as being bonkers. Hopefully it will hold up well - and perhaps even resonate even more than it did back in 2009 - when it launches later this year. An exact date for that has not been set yet.
