Fortnite could be getting a competitive mode, according to game files

Epic Games may be working on a competitive mode for Fortnite Battle Royale.

As we've come to expect now with the release of new Fortnite updates (patch 4.2 in this case), community hackers and dataminers have now dug deep to reveal unannounced new features, skins and the like.

Fortnite game files include folders for each of the game's modes. Under Playlists, you'll even find past limited time modes such as 50 vs 50, Solid Gold and so on. But when you apply the latest patch, a new folder pops up.

The folder is simply named Comp (via Fortnite Intel), likely short for Competitive. Fortnite has not had a competitive mode before, and this could be the first sign of one.

The folder only contains a solo variant, which either means this is what the mode is going to be, or that Epic Games will simply roll out competitive solo first before it expands it to duos and squads.

Competitive modes typically have more restrictive rules with a separate leaderboard. But without confirmation from Epic, it's hard to guess.

It's also worth noting that just because there's a folder named Comp doesn't explicitly mean the mode is coming soon, or at all, but it's very likely. If and when Epic does announce a Fortnite competitive mode, you'll be the first to know.
