Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery out today on iOS and Android
Wands at the ready, it’s time to don the Sorting Hat and choose a house. Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is available today on iOS and Android.
The free-to-play mobile game lets you create your own student and experience life at Hogwarts first-hand.
Although everyone’s favourite bespectacled wizard doesn’t feature heavily, some of the voice-talent from the movies reprise their roles, with Michael Gambon as Dumbledore, Dame Maggie Smith as Professor McGonagall, and Warwick Davis as Professor Flitwick.
“The story of Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is set in the 1980s,” developer Jam City said in a press release.
“In the game, players will progress as a student through Hogwarts, joining one of its four houses. Players will be able to create and upgrade personalized characters using an avatar customization system, learn an arsenal of magical skills, and form relationships with other students.”
The Hogwarts Mystery isn’t just confined to the walls of the castle though, with locations like Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade making appearances as well.
Early word is that the microtransactions used in the game are not limited to cosmetic items, but are linked to story progress as well. Some reviews have also mentioned that the game eats up a lot of mobile data, so you might want to stick to wifi.
You can download the game from both the iTunes App Store and Google Play Store.
