Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden first gameplay is XCOM + exploration + loot
Today, we get our first look at what Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is all about.
Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden, the turn-based strategy game with adventure elements from former Hitman and Payday devs, has produced a hefty gameplay demo for all to see.
The video is over 30-minutes-long, and features commentary from two of the game's developers. After a punchy opening cut-scene, the demo starts off with our three friends from the announce trailer (the duck, boar, and human) approaching an enemy camp to start a fight.
Before the action kicks off, we get to see how the game's adventure/exploration side plays out. Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden allow for real-time exploration out of combat, it's only when you trigger an enemy that it turns into XCOM.
This is interesting because the demo shows the player scouting ahead, and picking a less-guarded part of the camp to approach. When the encounter does get going, we get to see the different attacks mutations of our heroes.
For instance, Dux sprouts out wings which allows him to hit the target for much higher damage than he would deal just standing in front of them. These mutations are split into passive, minor and major - all of which can be activated and customised in between fights.
Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden also has loot, and an involved hub world, which we see a bit of in the gameplay.
There's really quite a lot going on here, and it's worth a watch. Check it out below.
Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is out at some point this year on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
