PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds 1.0 test patch datamined, revealing desert map layout, jet skis, pickup truck, more
Sure, everybody is busy having fun with the vaulting mechanics and improved vehicle physics in PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds' 1.0 test patch, but there are more exciting things to find if you're willing to dig deeper.
As with all major patches for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, or really any big game, the community has been poking around game files trying to find unannounced additions and undocumented changes.
With patch 1.0 out now on test servers, players datamined a lot of files after taking the patch. So far, game files revealed two major news.
The upcoming desert map, supposed to be part of this patch when it was first announced, didn't actually make it in this version. Regardless, it seems Bluehole left what looks like a near-final layout with all the town names, roads and so on.
A lot of these names look like placeholders, but it's hard to say for sure. One Reddit user used UE viewer to extract this snapshot:
A different Reddittor found references to a new vehicle: the jet ski. We only have this raw, early asset but it's another thing players have been asking for that we're happy to see is in the works. Take a look:
References to the VW minibus were also found in the patch. We had seen an in-game screenshot of the van before, but we've yet to actually test it. Some expected it to drop with this update, but it didn't turn up.
Creator Brendan "PlayerUnknown" Greene previously promised that the current map would get three new vehicles. If you count the VW minivan, and the jet ski, it leaves one other mystery vehicle - but the patch files solved the mystery. The same Reddit user dug up of another 4v4 pickup truck / jeep. It looks straight out of GTA: San Andreas.
We'll keep you updated if and when more datamined objects show up.
