EA will "most likely" discount Star Wars: Battlefront 2 around the release of The Last Jedi
EA has revealed that it has no problem dropping the price of Star Wars: Battlefront 2 close to the release of The Last Jedi to capitalise on the excitement.
Star Wars: Battlefront 2 releases in November, which means it would be out for around a month by the time The Last Jedi movie opens.
In a call to investors following the Q2 earnings release, EA was asked if Battlefront 2 will be discounted to take advantage of big sale seasons like Black Friday, or at any other time this year.
EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said that because Battlefront 2's release date is so close to Black Friday, EA will not discount it then. However, that doesn't mean the game won't be on sale at retailers. Instead, if you do see it on sale so close after launch, it will be the retailer taking the hit.
What EA has planned, though, is a discount to coincide with the release of the big upcoming Star Wars sequel, The Last Jedi. "We will most likely discount the game like we did last time around the movie launch," said Jorgensen.
"[...] maybe you'll even see some selective discounts around the holidays, either Thanksgiving or Christmas. That's the way the games business always has worked. And so if you see the title on discount, don't read anything into that other than the fact that that's the way you sell games in the holidays."
It's interesting that EA outright confirms this ahead of time. Though the information was revealed to investors, it may very well get some players to delay their purchase until a cheaper price is available.
In other Star Wars: Battlefront 2 news, DICE recently revealed a change to crate and progression systems from the beta. The new model isn't perfect, but it addresses a lot of the concerns people had.
Battlefront 2 is out November 17 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
