The Evil Within 2 runs great on PS4, but there's no PS4 Pro support
The Evil Within 2 is generally being regarded as an improvement over the original in the reviews so far.
One of the original's most damning problems was more technical than anything. Apart from the letterboxing and limited FOV, the Evil Within didn't run very well on consoles, with regular frame-rate drops and other issues.
In the Evil Within 2, things are looking much better. In a new analysis of the PS4 and PS4 Pro versions
The Evil Within 2 features much bigger and more open areas, with less loading times. This approach affects texture quality, according to the report, making it spotty in places. With the help of screen space reflections and specular highlights, things look better than what their texture quality would have you believe.
The game runs at a native 1080p on both standard PS4 and Pro, and sadly does not offer any PS4 Pro support. As a result, image quality is the same across both systems, with identical use of temporal AA.
Frame-rate is capped at 30fps, and the game manages to hit this target all the time on PS4 Pro thanks to boost mode, with some drops - particularly in certain cut-scenes - on the regular PS4.
