Stranger Things now has its own retro mobile game to prepare you for season 2

Stranger Things, the Netflix phenomenon, now has its own mobile game - and it actually looks pretty good.

Stranger Things the Game looks like a faithful adaptation, in that both it and the original series are indebted to retro aesthetics. Of course, the second season of the show is set in 1984 and the game looks more like it was pulled from the 90s, but hey. This is a completely free game, and apparently does not contain any pesky microtransactions. Of course, the game is essentially functioning as an ad for the series, but that doesn't mean it's not fun.

I'm yet to play the game myself - I'm downloading it now - but according to Gamesradar it's quite chunky, with six dungeons and seven characters to choose from. It's modeled as a re-telling of the first season, only more videogame-y. Judging from the trailer you get to jump between our world and the Upside Down, and lay the beat down on a variety of enemies.

Regardless of whether it's good or not, it's at least nice to see a mobile tie-in that doesn't ask us to manage a town or match up coloured gems or anything like that. It seems to stay true to the spirit of what Stranger Things is.

The game is out now on iOS and Android. Stranger Things season 2 releases to Netflix on October 27.
