Hand of Fate 2 has a release date, and it's looking like a big step forward

Hand of Fate was a fantastic, slightly under-the-radar mix of combat and rougelike storytelling, and now we're just a month out from what looks like a bigger, better sequel.

Hand of Fate 2 is played partly at a desk as a mysterious man places cards before you and you navigate forward with dice rolls and conversation choices, like an intense one-on-one RPG session. This is the roguelike element of the game; sometimes your character will be flung into battle, which, in the first game, was designed around a system similar to the Batman: Arkham games.

This new trailer for Hand of Fate 2 reveals the game's release date - November 7 - and shows the player picking up a weapon card during the tabletop portion of the game that their warrior can then use during combat.

Developers Defiant Development also released a few screenshots to show off Ariadne of Stiegal, a newly revealed playable character. She's a tank-style fighter, with a high luck stat outside of combat.

The first game was great, but the combat could be a bit janky. Based on this footage (and having played the game myself, albeit a year ago), this sequel seems to be an improvement. If you haven't played Hand of Fate but download all the free Xbox Live Games with Gold, there's a good chance it is sitting on your hard drive - it was free in February 2016. It's worth giving a shot.

Hand of Fate 2 will release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on November 7.
