Until Dawn VR prequel The Inpatient due in November - here's the new trailer

The Inpatient is going to take players back to the Blackwood Sanatorium in the 1950s, 60 years before the events of Until Dawn, later this year.

2015's brilliant Until Dawn featured sequences set in an abandoned sanatorium, where it was implied that some nasty stuff had gone down. The game's second VR spin-off, after last year's odd but enjoyable Rush of Blood (which Matt liked a fair bit), will take players back there to find out what, exactly, happened to the patients.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog by Simon Harris, Executive Producer at Supermassive Games, the game will let you "piece together the rich backstory" of the place and the character you play as, who has no memory of how they got there.

"You’ll get to influence and shape how the story unfolds as you witness the horrific events of the sanatorium’s final days", Harris says. There will be multiple different endings depending on how you play and the decisions you make. It sounds suitably creepy, but we won't know how many jump scares it contains until it releases on November 21.

Supermassive is also working on Bravo Team, another VR game due on December 5, as well as Hidden Agenda, a Playlink crime drama title that looks pretty great. In other words, their plates are pretty full...but we hold out hope for an Until Dawn 2 down the track.
