The Walking Dead: Our World AR game will have us shuffling around staring at our phones like its eponymous zombies
The Walking Dead: Our World will, appropriately enough, bring the Walking Dead into our world soon via Pokemon Go-style augmented reality.
Details are scarce - much like supplies will be once the zombie apocalypse kicks in, one supposes - but according to the game's official website it will be a "first-of-a-kind location based augmented reality mobile game where you "fight walkers on the streets, in the park, on your sofa, wherever and whenever you feel like it". Characters from the show will pop up to assist you too - Rick, Daryl and Michonne are confirmed.
It looks like you'll be picking up weapons and fighting off the zombie hoard wherever you are, although it's not yet clear whether this will be a structured game experience with objectives or not.
The app presumably won't take off to the same degree Pokemon Go did - it won't appeal to children in the same way, after all - but it could be that fans of the show will soon be shuffling around major cities in packs, eyes transfixed to their phones, living out the 'modern consumers as zombies' metaphor with particular irony as they seek out and slay the digital undead.
As Rick once screamed in the comics, 'we ARE the walking dead!' (it's not a particularly subtle series).
There's no word yet on when the game will launch, but it has been promised for the App Store and Google Play 'soon'.
