Hyperkin's Smart Boy lets you play Game Boy cartridges on your smartphone
Are you ready to replay Game Boy Color cartridges like it's the 1998?
Hyperkin has been knocking it out of the park when it comes to gaming peripherals. Not only are its replica Xbox controller and SNES mouse completely on-point (in a retro sense), they've also introduced what might be my favorite peripheral yet: the Smart Boy. This device is crafted as a cradle for your Android smartphone that makes it easier than ever to play classic Game Boy Color games.
And no, I'm not talking about emulated versions. The Smart Boy fully supports your classic Game Boy cartridges. (Although it's also compatible with some Google Play software like the Game Boy Advanced app.)
True to its Game Boy spirit, the Smart Boy has the iconic D-Pad, Start and Select Buttons, and the forever-pressed A and B action buttons. It comes with its own 5-hour battery, but the unit can be charged directly through the phone. And thankfully, the price isn't bad at all - American customers can currently pick up a unit for $59.99 from the Hyperkin website.
Don't worry Europe, you'll be able to pick up a Smart Boy of your own for £59.99 this September.
