Pokemon Go is in for some major updates this summer.

According to an interview with Brazilian newspaper O Globo (via Go Nintendo) vice president of strategic partnerships at Niantic, Mathieu de Fayet, confirmed that the game is due for an update this summer that will add the ability to play against other players.

Furthermore, Legendary Pokemon are also coming.

According to de Fayet, these features were initially planned to go live earlier, but the game's phenomenal success resulted in their delay. "Pokémon Go has been downloaded 650 million times, but now it has 65 million active players. How do you keep players interested in the game?" he said.

"Right now we are working on some that are due to hit this summer (in the northern hemisphere), such as giving more value to the choice of the teams, releasing Legendary Pokémon and introducing PvP.

"One thing we learned with Ingress was that the game can sustain itself if we are able to create social interactions amongst players, and we are working on that."

Niantic previously teased Legendary Pokemon for this summer, but the PvP feature will certainly be welcome by those who have seen and done everything the game has to offer.
