Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries is a single-player Mechwarrior game, see the first gameplay footage
Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries has been announced as a single-player Mechwarrior project.
Piranha Games, developers of the currently live Mechwarrior Online, have announced a new game in the series at Mech Con 2016. It's called Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries and it's going to bring what fans have been asking for: a single-player campaign.
The game takes place in the Third Succession War. You play as a rookie pilot and you'll be able to take contracts from the different factions. Like the free-to-play multiplayer game, action will happen from a first-person perspective, from the inside of a Battlemech.
The footage above was taken from the game's pre-alpha build, built on Unreal Engine 4. We get to see an early mission, and have our first look at our Battlemech, before finally embarking it to see the dashboard and all the controls inside.
The developer said gameplay will bring back tactical and maintenance elements fans expect, some of which can be seen today in Mechwarrior Online. In addition, the game's been confirmed to be designed for VR.
Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries is being developed by a dedicated team at Piranha, and is currently shooting for a 2018 release.
