The Last of Us: Part 2 announced at PSX and it looks amazing
I need a sit down and a cup of tea after that.
Oh. My. Goodness.
PlayStation Experience 2016 just wrapped up the show by blowing our collective minds.
Announcing that the game they were about to show was in very early development, the trailer opened on a forest with abandoned, rusted vehicles scattered here and there, before we got a glimpse of the Fireflies logo. The crowd went wild and I almost flipped over my desk in excitement.
Next up is Ellie looking pretty beat-up, sitting on a bed playing her guitar with a dead guy in front of her. It looks she's been on a bit of a killing rampage and when Joel joins her, she tells him that she plans on going ahead with her mission of killing "every last one of them".
If you played the first game, you'll know that Joel whisked Ellie away from the Fireflies, putting a dampener on finding a cure for the infection. Given that the bodies in the house appeared to be human, is Ellie's beef now with the Fireflies? Or could it be a new faction?
Chime in with your theories below.
"I can’t tell you how satisfying it is to finally be able to say that Ellie and Joel are back for another intense, harrowing, and emotional adventure," said Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann. "Like many of you, we have a deep love for the world of The Last of Us and its characters, and while a sequel may have seemed like a foregone conclusion, that wasn’t the case.
"We knew that it needed to be a story worth telling and, perhaps more importantly, a story worthy of Joel and Ellie.
"After spending years on different ideas (and almost giving up), we finally uncovered a story that felt special—a story that evolved into an epic journey.
It’s still early days for the project—the game’s release is a ways off—but we couldn’t wait any longer to give you a glimpse of what’s to come. We’re going to let the trailer speak for itself, but expect more information about The Last of Us Part 2 in the coming months."
Yes, please do. And please hurry.
