Gears of War 4 is celebrating Halloween with new game mode, unique elite pack

Gears of War 4 is adding a ramped up version of Dodgeball just in time for Halloween.

Gears of War 4 developer The Coalition has revealed its plans for Halloween-themed events and items. First up, there's a new mode called Pumpkin Ball.

Pumpkin Ball is a twist on Dodgeball that reduces spawn protection, and sets the spawn timer to just one second. This essentially makes killing people not as valuable, since they're going to spawn back quickly, removing the tactical element of the mode in favour of frantic action.

In addition, the social playlist now has five of the darker maps in the game. They're Fallout, Forge, Harbor, Impact, and Lift. It's also in this playlist where you'll be seeing Pumpkin Heads.

The Pumpkin Ball playlist grants bonus XP as well, and you can find it under Events in the Versus menu.

In addition the modes, a new gear pack will be released today. It's called the Halloween Elite Pack, a variant of the Elite Pack. You're guaranteed one card to be either Epic or Legendary, and the latter will only drop Day of the Dead Legendary Collection items.

You can only buy the pack until November 1.
