Cuphead developer delays release to mid-2017 on all platforms to "ship with our vision intact"

Cuphead won't make it this year. Soz.

Cuphead has been delayed from an expected 2016 launch.

The 1930's animation-inspired platformer, which made a huge splash at E3 2015, will now launch in mid-2017 on PC and Xbox One.

In a statement published on Studio MDHR's website, the developer said it had to choose between a delay and chopping Cuphead down to fit a tight schedule.

"We wanted to finish our game 80 years after 1936 but it will now be 81. Throughout this year we discussed reducing the scope to make a 2016 release, but we made the difficult decision to delay the launch in order to ship with our vision intact."

It's not terribly surprising to learn of this delay given that Cuphead evolved from a boss rush game to a full platformer sometime in the year after its E3 2015 debut.

Ah well - it's not like Cuphead's visuals are going to go out of style any time soon.
