FIFA 17 sells 40x more than PES 2017 in the UK on launch week - report
FIFA is having a banner year with this year's release, both against older games in the series as well as the competition.
FIFA 17 sales in the UK has been strong, stronger than usual. The yearly release always tops the UK charts, but this year the game broke records and became the best-selling FIFA ever during the first week.
As for the competition, Pro Evolution Soccer (PES), the only other football game competing with FIFA, don't usually sell anywhere near as well as EA's sports series. This year it was even worse for Konami.
According to analyst Daniel Ahmad, FIFA 17 sold 40 times more than PES 2017 in its first week on sale in the UK. 40 times!
This translates to 1.1 million copies for FIFA, and a meagre 50,000 for PES. This also meant that PES sales were down year on year, according to Ahmad.
As Ahmad correctly notes, fans of football games always make comments about how every year's PES release is another step closer to the high bar set by FIFA. This year, however - at least where sales are concerned - this hasn't been the case. Releasing around two weeks early didn't help it either.
