JJ Abrams says to expect Portal movie announcement "fairly soon"
It's been several months since JJ Abrams confirmed Half-Life and Portal movies were in development, but there's been remarkably little to report since. That might be about to change according to Abrams himself, who says to expect a Portal movie announcement in particular.
"We have a meeting coming up next week with Valve, we’re very active," Abrams told IGN at a Westworld red carpet event. "I’m hoping that there will be a Portal announcement fairly soon.
"We are having some really interesting discussions with writers," he continued. "Once you said you’re doing a movie or show about a specific thing that is a known quantity you start to find people who are rabid about these things. As someone who loves playing Half Life and Portal ... it’s incredible when you talk to someone who just ‘gets’ it, it’s like, oh my god, it’s really the seed for this incredible tree you’re growing."
You know, if the Portal movie turns out to be fantastic, every geek-friendly review will open with "This is a triumph" or "Huge success". And that will be a little insufferable - but perhaps something to look forward to all the same.
