Kingdom Hearts 2.8 to miss December, now out January 24 - here's the TGS 2016 trailer
Slightly adjusted release date for the prologue to KH3.
Back at E3 earlier this year, Square Enix confirmed a launch window for Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, announcing that the long-winded named title was to land in December.
A new trailer shown at the 2016 Sony PlayStation press conference in Japan has confirmed that's no longer the case, with the game now having a launch date of January 24 2017. Japan will get it a little earlier on January 12.
It's not a big slip, but after Final Fantasy 15's delay and with the original launch window getting perilously close without an official date confirmation, it's not surprising to see the game slip by a few weeks. It'd now be surprising to see the game arrive in December in the West either, but we'll update you with more word when Square Enix's Western offices speak on the matter.
Kingdom Hearts 2.8 is a re-release of sorts. It includes a full HD remaster of 3DS entry Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance, a movie that covers major backstory events and Kingdom Hearts 0.2, a short playable side-story that helps to tee up Kingdom Hearts 3 while giving fans a taste of its combat and visuals, since it's built in KH3's engine. We've got more on that, and Kingdom Hearts 3, over on our hub page.
