Overwatch Summer Games items are supposed to be rare enough that some of you miss out on them
If you miss an Overwatch Summer Games item, everything's working as intended.
Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan has issued a new developer update video discussing Blizzard's intentions with seasonal events.
Kaplan said Overwatch's Summer Games will be back next year, and that Blizzard plans to have other seasonal events in the meantime. These help a game feel alive, he said.
During the Summer Games you have a chance to get hold of some sweet cosmetic items, and unlike vanilla cosmetics, they're only available for a limited time and can't be purchased through the store. This may upset some Overwatch players, but Kaplan said they'll have another chance next year.
In the meantime, it's a great incentive to play a lot of Overwatch over the course of the event. You want those athletic outfits, don't you? And then you will be the object of everyone's envy, as they wait for next year's Summer Games. What a marvellous hype cycle.
