The above image was posted on NeoGAF. It's a loading screen in the Resident Evil 7 teaser and seems innocuous enough, but some people think the strip of numbers on the left-hand side are anything but.

The second string of numbers corresponds to the product ID of Resident Evil 1 - specifically the director's cut that included a demo for Resident Evil 2.

The logic on the thread is that the director's cut of Resi 1 was available without the Resi 2 demo and with its own product code, so there must be some kind of significance to it.

The current consensus is that we'll see a demo for the remake of Resident Evil 2 packed in with Resident Evil 7 when it comes out next year.

The Resident Evil 7 teaser was made available to download yesterday, soon after the title was announced at Sony's E3 press conference.

It's a standalone experience that won't be featured in the game itself.

Matt Martin has given it a go and it has his stamp of approval - for the most part.

Resident Evil 7 is coming to PC, PS4 and Xbox One on January 24, 2017.
