Dark Souls fans wanting a hard copy of the comic should get a move on.

Dark Souls #1, the first issue of a new series exploring new stories set in the world of the three games to date, has been a roaring success.

Publisher Titan Comics said the issue sold out completely on day one. It has scrambled to produce a second run, and expects fresh copies to hit stores on May 18. The second print run features a new cover by Alan Quah (Orphan Black, Godzilla: Awakening), so if you were lucky enough to grab a first-run issue you can lord it over everyone who missed out.

Titan warned that this second run may also sell out. If you want to ensure you get a copy, you can ask your local comic store to order one in using the Diamond code MAR168497.

Although this isn't the first Dark Souls comic, it's the first to release as a standalone series as opposed to a limited promotional event for a specific game. The series is written by George Mann (Doctor Who: The Eighth Doctor, Newbury and Hobbes Investigations) and illustrated by Quah. Fans may be pleased to learn it's not a retelling of any of the games' stories to date; one of the major beauties of Dark Souls is that so much is open to interpretation and left to the player's imagination, and nailing down a canon would ruin that.

Publisher Titan is also responsible for Assassin's Creed, Deus Ex, Doctor Who and Warhammer 40K series, as well as many original non-licensed titles.
